St. Basil the Great
St. Basil the Great (329-379 AD) was Bishop of Caesarea and one of the Three Holy Hierarchs. He established monasteries and hospitals, created the monastic Rule still followed today, and was instrumental in the formulation of Trinitarian doctrine.
His Divine Liturgy is celebrated ten times a year in the Orthodox Church.
A tree is known by its fruit; a man by his deeds. A good deed is never lost; he who sows courtesy reaps friendship, and he who plants kindness gathers love.
When someone steals another's clothes, we call them a thief. Should we not give the same name to one who could clothe the naked and does not?
He who sows courtesy reaps friendship, and he who plants kindness gathers love.
Keep striving until the fire of heresy is put out, before it consumes the Church.
In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
Prayer of St. Basil
O Lord our God, teach us, we beseech Thee, to ask Thee for the right blessings. Steer Thou the vessel of our life toward Thyself, the tranquil haven of all storm-tossed souls.
Prayer Before Communion
O Master, Lord Jesus Christ our God, fountain of life and immortality, Creator of all things visible and invisible, the everlasting Son of the eternal Father, Who in Thy boundless mercy became man for our salvation.
