St. Thekla
St. Thekla (1st century) was a virgin martyr who, according to tradition, was converted by St. Paul's preaching. Known as 'Equal-to-the-Apostles' and the first female martyr, she miraculously survived various tortures.
She spent her later years as a hermit, healing and converting many.
O sovereign Lord, Creator of heaven and earth, the Father of your beloved and holy Son, I praise you that you have preserved me from the fire to see Paul again.
I shall cut my hair, and follow you wherever you may go.
In your name, O my Lord Jesus Christ, I am this last day baptized.
Prayer to St. Thekla
O glorious Protomartyr Thekla, companion of Paul the Apostle, intercede with Christ our God to grant us strength in trials and steadfastness in faith.
Prayer of St. Thekla
O Lord the God of this house, in which I was first enlightened by you; O Jesus, son of the living God, who was my helper in prison, my helper before the governors, my helper in the fire, my helper among the beasts; you are God, and unto you be the glory for ever. Amen.
