St. Procopius of Caesarea
The Holy Great-Martyr Procopius, named Neanias before his baptism, was born in Jerusalem to a Christian father and a pagan mother, and was sent by the emperor Diocletian as proconsul to Alexandria to persecute the Christians there.
On the road, near Apamea in Syria, he was converted by a vision of a radiant cross; when later handed the imperial decree ordering him to renew the persecution, he tore it up and openly confessed Christ. After enduring imprisonment and cruel tortures at Caesarea in Palestine, during which his mother Theodosia and many others came to believe, he was beheaded in 303, the first of the martyrs of Palestine recorded by Eusebius.
There is no God but one only, the Maker and Creator of all things.
The rule of many is not good; let there be one ruler, one king.
