St. Isaiah the Prophet
The Holy Prophet Isaiah, son of Amoz, prophesied in Judah in the 8th century BC during the reigns of Kings Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah.
Called through a vision of the Lord enthroned among the six-winged Seraphim, when a burning coal cleansed his lips, he preached repentance for some sixty years and foretold the Messiah's virgin birth, suffering, and resurrection with such clarity that the Church names him the Old Testament Evangelist. According to tradition he was martyred under King Manasseh by being sawn asunder, and was buried near the Pool of Siloam; his relics were later transferred to Constantinople.
Here am I; send me.
Woe is me, for I am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips: for mine eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts.
Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.
The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever.
Seek ye the Lord while He may be found, call ye upon Him while He is near.
Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and not be afraid: for the Lord is my strength and my song; He also is become my salvation.
