St. Pachomius the Great
St. Pachomius the Great (292-348 AD) was an Egyptian monk who founded cenobitic (communal) monasticism. A former soldier, he organized monks into communities with common prayer, meals, and work.
His monastic rule influenced both Eastern and Western monasticism.
Be ever more obedient to God and He will save you.
Shun the praise of men and love the one who, in the fear of the Lord, reprimands you.
Take as an example the wisdom of Joseph and his submission. Do battle in chastity and service until you make yourself a king.
It is patience that reveals every grace to you, and it is through patience that the saints received all that was promised to them.
Rule of St. Pachomius
Refer to the rule of prayer that was given to St. Pachomius by an Angel. The Venerable Father Pachomius was one of the great monastic fathers. He used this rule of prayer to consecrate every hour of the day or night. This prayer rule is one that is fairly easy to memorize so you do not need a prayer book.
