St. Joachim and St. Anna
Saints Joachim and Anna, he descended from King David of the tribe of Judah and she from a priestly family of the tribe of Levi, lived in Nazareth and remained childless into old age, bearing the reproach of barrenness with fasting, prayer, and unwavering trust in God.
According to holy tradition, an angel announced to each of them that they would bear a daughter through whom salvation would come to the world, and Anna gave birth to the Most Holy Theotokos, whom they dedicated to God in the Temple. Joachim reposed at about eighty years of age, and Anna about two years later. The Church honors them with the title Righteous Ancestors of God and commemorates them on September 9, the day after the Nativity of the Theotokos.
