St. Macrina the Younger
July 194th century
St. Macrina the Younger (330-379 AD) was the eldest sister of St. Basil the Great and St. Gregory of Nyssa. A consecrated virgin and spiritual teacher, she profoundly influenced her famous brothers.
After their father's death, she and her mother established a monastic community on their family estate.
The soul that is attached to anything, however much good there may be in it, will not arrive at the liberty of divine union.
The process of healing shall be proportioned to the measure of evil in each of us, and when the evil is purged and blotted out, there shall come in its place the higher good.
Prayer of St. Macrina
Thou, O Lord, hast freed us from the fear of death. Thou hast made the end of life here on earth a beginning of true life for us.
