St. Philip the Apostle
St. Philip was born in Bethsaida of Galilee, the town of Peter and Andrew, and was among the first called by Christ, immediately bringing Nathanael to the Lord with the words "Come and see."
Well versed in the Scriptures, he recognized Jesus as the Messiah foretold by Moses and the Prophets, and at the Mystical Supper he asked the Lord to show the disciples the Father. After Pentecost he preached the Gospel in Galilee, Greece, Syria, and Asia Minor, working many miracles alongside the Apostle Bartholomew and his own sister Mariamne. He was martyred by crucifixion in Hierapolis of Phrygia around the year 86, during the reign of Domitian, praying for his persecutors as he died.
We have found Him of whom Moses in the Law, and also the Prophets, wrote: Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.
Come and see.
Two hundred denarii worth of bread is not sufficient for them, that every one of them may have a little.
Lord, show us the Father, and it is sufficient for us.
