St. Demetrius of Thessaloniki
October 264th century
St. Demetrius of Thessaloniki (270-306 AD) was a Christian martyr and warrior saint. According to tradition, he was a Roman proconsul who was imprisoned and killed for preaching Christianity.
He is known as the 'Myrrh-streamer' because myrrh has flowed from his relics. He is patron saint of soldiers and the city of Thessaloniki.
Lord, do not permit the city or the people to perish. If You save the city and the people, I shall be saved with them. If they perish, I will perish with them.
Christ, who raises up those cast down, cures you.
