St. Gabriel of Georgia
St. Gabriel (Urgebadze) was born in Tbilisi in 1929 and tonsured a monk in 1955. On May 1, 1965, he publicly burned a giant portrait of Lenin during a Soviet parade, proclaiming that glory belongs to Christ and not to a dead man, for which he was imprisoned and confined to a psychiatric hospital.
Taking up the ascetic path of a fool-for-Christ, he spent his final decades at the Samtavro Convent in Mtskheta, where crowds sought his counsel until his repose on November 2, 1995; the Church of Georgia glorified him in 2012.
Whoever learns to love will be happy. Only do not think that love is an inborn talent. One can learn love, and we must.
God will not accept empty words. God loves deeds. Good deeds are what love is.
A humbled man is protected from temptations. No one can enter the Kingdom of God without humbleness.
Remember, God is love. Do as much kindness as you can to save yourself by this kindness.
In the End Days a man will be saved by love, humbleness and kindness.
Conscience is a small God.
Troparion · Tone 4
As the Master Christ hid His divinity, clothing it in humanity, and, unseen by us, brought into being His ineffable glory, likewise didst thou hide thy glory by means of foolishness, and by the wonder of thy confession wast shown forth as a shepherd of souls; O venerable Father Gabriel, entreat Christ God to have mercy on our souls.
