St. Justin Martyr
June 12nd century
St. Justin Martyr (100-165 AD) was an early Christian apologist. A philosopher who converted to Christianity, he sought to reconcile faith and reason.
His 'First Apology' defending Christianity to the Roman Emperor is one of the earliest and most important apologetic works.
We have learned from the prophets, and we hold it to be true, that punishments, and chastisements, and good rewards, are rendered according to the merit of each man's actions.
No one should be called an enemy of the state who loves truth.
Let it be understood that those who are not found living as He taught are not Christian- even though they profess with the lips the teaching of Christ.
To yield and give way to our passions is the lowest slavery, even as to rule over them is the only liberty.
For Christ also said, Unless you be born again, you shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.
The blood of Christ is precious, as being able to redeem us, and it is poured out for all, for the remission of sins.
Prayer of St. Justin
we pray O Lord for the strength to imitate Saint Justin in his constant efforts to make known the riches of the Faith to his fellowmen. Grant us the grace to be ever mindful of the many blessings we have received from You. Through Christ Our Lord. Amen.
