St. Basil of Ostrog
St. Basil was born around 1610 in Popovo Polje in Herzegovina, became a monk at the Tvrdos Monastery, and after a sojourn on Mount Athos was consecrated Metropolitan of Zahumlje and Herzegovina in 1639.
A tireless shepherd during a time of Turkish oppression, he moved with thirty monks to the cliffside monastery of Ostrog after Tvrdos was destroyed, living in great asceticism and ceaseless prayer for his flock. He reposed peacefully on April 29, 1671, and his incorrupt, wonderworking relics at Ostrog remain one of the great pilgrimage destinations of the Balkans, drawing Christians and Muslims alike who seek healing.

Troparion
From your youth you gave yourself entirely to the Lord, remaining in prayer, labor and fasting, O God-bearing Father. Because you were an example of virtues and good works to your flock, seeing your good work, God established you as a pastor and good hierarch of His Church. And after your repose, He kept your body incorrupt, O holy Basil. Therefore, with boldness pray to Christ God to save our souls.
